American Teens Are Even More Stressed Than Adults

Recently the American Psychological Association's Stress in America survey found that American teenagers now hold the tittle for the most stressed generation. Most teenagers underestimate the toll that stress has on them and their health. Other factors like not enough sleep, social media, and a lack of exercise also add on to stress levels.

  1. I definitely agree that us teens have a lot on our plate and it can be too much to handle sometimes. We have to worry about a lot such as graduating high school, jobs, college, relationships, and sometimes even taking care of your family. Half of us don't even know were stressed when we really are. Whens your breaking point to finding out?

  2. I agree that Teens have a lot of stress. I usually have the same feeling, but I don't know what to do! I've never founded a way to be calm without any stress. Social media or my daily life give me a lot of stress. I can't handle them. I want to take a yoga class that maybe I can prevent having a lot of stress. I would like to know how we can release stress from our bodies.

  3. I completely agree that teens the most stressed generation, I also know the feeling of having immense stress, and feeling that there is no way out of my problems, but every adult in the world has been a teenager at one point in their lives, I keep that thought in the back of my mind every time i feel super stressed out. If those adults went through the same thing I have, and they turned out fine, why can't I

  4. I agree teens are more stressed out in this generation. The fact of having extracurricular activities and school work doesn't give us much time for relaxing. Adults get stressed out too but they can get over really fast since they are mature. Teens aren't mature yet so getting over stress is difficult. The best way I handle stress is by listening to music.

  5. I also agree that teenagers can be the most stressed because so much is asked of us and we have a lot of responsibilities and choices to make that affect us. like school is a big cause of stress upon teenagers because a lot is required of us in and outside the classroom and that is a heavy burden to us. But how do most people relive stress?

  6. I totally understand that teenage stress levels are now the highest because I feel stressed everyday like with homework or if Im just really overwhelmed I kind of just break down. Usually when Im stressed I go to my mom because she always knows what to say when Im stressed and always helps me. I think social media has a huge impact on stress because a lot of the time when I should be sleeping Im on my phone on a social media site just doing nothing and not getting sleep and you need to get sleep to help with stress and teenagers nowadays don't get enough sleep.

  7. I agree too. Teens today seem to be dealing with more stress than previous generations. Colleges are harder to get in to, and even with a college degree it’s going to be difficult for our generation to find steady, well-paying jobs. We’re the first generation in a long time that doesn’t have the near-guarantee of maintaining our current lifestyle as long as we work hard. In addition to that, it’s difficult to find support. Sure everyone was a teenager at least once in their life, but only we have been teenagers in this time period. It’s difficult for adults to offer confident advice when the stresses they faced were so different from the ones we face today. I think that’s the biggest problem. We’re stressed, and no one knows how to deal with it.

  8. I do agree that this generation is more stressed than it should be. Trying to find a balance between advance courses, sleep, sports, clubs, events, relationships, and volunteer work is more than the average adult has to worry about. And it's not like the average adult has to worry about making it into a college with all these factors and maintaining a good health in order to get a good degree and even then it is uncertain whether you will find a job or not. They grew up in a time where the world was much bigger and people were still people. Now, with the technology revolution, the world is much smaller and people have become numbers. And to treat a child like so in system, you cannot tell me that that doesn't have an impact on their stress levels.

  9. I 100% agree that teens of our generation have been the most stressed out because of things such as homework, school, work. For me, I have to balance all three of thoses things and it gets pretty stressful at times. Sometimes I will have to go to work right after school than go home after work which can be like 7:30-8:00 and I would still have to many other things that take a lot of time, like dinner, and a shower. By the time that's done, its 9:30 and i'm freaking out. Social Media is also a pretty big issue that is dealt by teens. The amount of time spent on social media is crazy, it takes a lot of time out of teens.

  11. I to agree that this generation is now the most stressed generation in America. Trying to balance school, relationships, social life, sports and for some of us a job can he extremely complicated and stressful. And with teens getting less sleep than they should they stress level only builds. Stress plays a big role in all of our lives and can deeply affect us when we grow up. Stress can lead to very serious problems like high blood pressure.

  12. I completely agree that our generation is the most stressed out. We are living in a society where things are constantly changing..Our generation is constantly adapting to new things and this creates stress. Not only do we have to deal with constant changes, we have to live with having higher expectations for ourselves. We are expected to behave like adults but have to obey and comply with the adults ideas. We are expected to be superb at everything in order to get into a good or excellent college. We are expected to be able to be able to juggle so many activities in our short amount of time as teenagers. It honestly amazes me that even with the dangerous health side effects of stress in our generation, nothing is changing for us.

  13. I also agree that American teens are more stressed than adults. With the increased competition amongst students, teens often force themselves to work harder to exceed in school. Many teens also began to put school work over their own health, so they lose sleep and sometimes even skip meals.

  14. I think technology has played a large factor in this development. Due to the constant changes in technology, society and the education continue to change as well. It doesn't help that adults constantly deny that things are becoming more difficult because teens have a tendancy to make things seem more difficult and dramatic than they actually are, when in fact things ARE changing and becoming more difficult.

  15. I some what agree with this post but I also think that teens put a lot of pressure on them selfs or just making things a lot more difficult then it should be. As a jr in high school i don't have a lot of stress because I'm always calm and never let things get the worst of me

  16. I agree with this. As more students are becoming more competitive, they are also expected to achieve higher. Students will spend more time completing homework and tend to ignore their health. Many students think it's "normal" to get less than 5 hours of sleep every night, and eat more unhealthy foods just because it's not as time consuming as making a healthy meal.

  17. It's very possible that teens get more stressed out than adults because teens have to deal with stress with school and homework. But i thinks adults or parents are more stressed because they have to get a job and support their kids and whatever bills are needed.
