Wine: How good is it for you?

A very commonly asked question was wether or not wine, specifically red wine, is healthy for someone to drink often or even every night. This directly related to the food topics we have been learning about in class recently.Wine is actually considered a 'super food' with enumerate health benefits including lessening chances for cancer and gum disease. Similar studies show that drinking wine actually makes it more difficult for one to gain excess body mass also know as fat. Wine is quite possible the healthiest type of alcohol. I thought this article was interesting because i had heard rumors of wines health but never actually known for sure what they were or if there were even any.

Do you think most people who drink wine are aware of its health benefits?
Would you drink a glass or two of wine a day? Why or why not?

  1. I do think most people who do drink wine know that there is a health benefit, but I don't think they exactly know what the health benefit is to them. If I were of drink age, I'd probably drink a glass or two a few days, but it's hard to say personally as I don't enjoy the smell or taste of anything alcoholic; however, the fact that wine might help to lower BMI is what catches my eye. It does seem worth it, and hey, what a way to fake being classy now and then when I'm older.

  2. I don't believe that most people actually know the health benefits of wine I think they mainly use it for fun. Now if it wasn't illegal and red wine could actually benefit me I would definitely drink a glass or two a day. I just worry that this could create an excuse for more people to drink more often. Could this create more alcoholism and issues related to drinking alcohol?

  3. Normally people don't associate any kind of health benefits with alcohol. It is very interesting that wine can help your body in multipe ways. Knowing that it prevent things like cancer, and heart disease people may be open to have a glass every once in awhile. At the same time excessive amounts of alcohol can lead to addiction so the intake of the wine should be monitored even if it's beneficial.

  4. I feel like most people probably don't know that drinking wine benefits them in any way, as alcohol is normally portrayed as unhealthy. However, if people did know that drinking wine has healthy benefits, I think that it would be unlikely for them to know exactly what the benefits are. Even though drinking wine has some health benefits, I think it's still good to limit the amount one drinks. Drinking too much wine can also have negative effects.

  5. I don't think people know that wines have health benefits. I believe that wines have health benefits, but if they drink wine every day, they will get addicted to it. Perhaps it's not the best way of eating healthy drinks. I might try to drink it, but I don't think that I can continue drinking it.

  6. Well, I admit that this article is interesting because it states that wine is the safest alcohol that you can drink. Even though it might be a distasteful feeling when you drink it for the first time, but the fact is that wine can help people prevent serious diseases like cancer.

  7. Most people are unaware of the advantages and disadvantages of the food they put in their bodies. The Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has found that red wine has the opposite effect regarding breast cancer when compared to other alcoholic beverages. Regardless, I would not consume red wine regularly if I were of legal age. I do not have a heightened risk for breast cancer because it does not run in my family. If I did want to lower my risk then I would prefer to eat red grapes instead because studies have shown that they provide the same health benefits as red wine while containing fiber as well.

  10. I don't think people know the health benefits of wine. People just drink it because it tastes good to them, but if they found out i'm sure they wouldn't stop and maybe continue. For teens knowing about this might cause them to think it's okay to drink wine just because of the good factors.

  12. I think that drinking wine is ok but not sure if it truly is healthy for you because if you drink it in excess or too much of it you get drunk but if you were to drink it in moderation i think if could be good for you but im not quite sure people who drink wine are aware of its so called benefit i think they eihter drink to get drunk or just enjoy it

  13. I don't think many people know the health benefits of wine. But in my family they know all about it because 3 people in my family own vineyards and wine is all they talk about and drink. But i think in order for something to be healthy for you, you cant have too much of it because too much of something is never good.

  14. I'm sure plenty of people are aware of the existence of wine's health benefits, if not the specifics. Then again, anything can have health benefits if not consumed in excess. I could see myself being interested in a glass or two every once in a while, but I'm personally more of a water person (which also has tons of health benefits, if not the same ones).

    1. Do you think water has more health benefits than wine does? Which benefits are these and do they outweight thise of wine?

  15. I'm not 100% sure that many people know the health benefits of wine when drinking it. Many might, but I belive that drinking more than 1-2 glasses is not good for you. Over drinking can lead to bad results such as making horrible decisions a.k.a. drunk driving. I'm not saying that is what people think after having a couple glasses of wine but its better to drink in moderation unlike all at once.

  16. I do believe that red wine may be good for you but I also believe that many people take advantage of the fact. At first people start with a glass a night and before they know it it 2 or 3 or maybe 4 glasses per night. This can lead to people becoming alcoholics and making poor decisions in life. In the article it was stated that women who drink 6 glasses of alcohol per week have a 15% increase chance of getting breast cancer! Why would you even risk it.

  17. I agree that wine can have some health benefits, but I also think that if you drink it, it should be in moderation. An excess of any alcohol, can be extremely damaging to your health. The article didn't seem like a complete 100% assurance about the heath benefits, so I wouldn't go out of my way to drink more than 1 glass of wine a day.

  18. I think that Wine can help in so many ways because in the article it talked about fighting gum disease and cold. Also it helps with some blood flow to your body. But the only thing is that people should over abuse the use of Wine because it is alcohol and it can hurt you if you consume to much.

  19. I don't think that a lot of people that drink wine are necessarily aware of all it's health benefits, well some are but a lot of them aren't, but I think that it's definitively beneficial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and it's something that I could see myself drinking in the near future, obliviously a moderate amount though.

  20. I also believe that wine can benefit our health. My grandparents usually drink a cup every night and they are always healthy. I would definitely try drinking wine every night to see the effects myself.

  21. that was really interesting. but i don't think that anyone who drinks wine knows that wine could be good for them. Everyone in my family likes wine and they all seem healthy so yea I guess I would do wine.

  22. Yes red wine may have some properties that potentially lower the risks of certain disease, but no one is certain and it hasn't been fully substantiated. And wine does contain substances like antioxidants and resveratrol that are beneficial for the heart. But, you can be healthy without consuming alcohol. You can consume real, wholesome fruits and vegetables that contain wonderful vitamins, minerals, and protections against cancer/heart issues. Alcohol consumption should never be encouraged or embraced. It should not be apart of one's lifestyle. People should have an apple a day, rather than a glass of wine a day. As far as I know, alcohol is dehydrating and arouses emotions. Alcohol on regular basis is a no go in my opinion.
