Near the beginning of this semester, we wrote argumentative paragraphs about what we thought was the biggest health hazard at Hillsdale High School. I argued that it was stress. A 2013 survey done by the American Psychological Association found that stress is incredibly common in teens, especially during the school year. Stress has the ability to cause many other problems, and is often found to be the root of many of the challenges teens face regularly. But stress doesn’t have to be an inescapable part of life-there are a lot of ways to deal with it, and different techniques work for different people. Techniques include (but are not limited to) physical activity, a healthy sleeping pattern, art, and/or organizing your schedule. Something I like to do to reduce stress is read a good book or take a long shower (not good because of the drought now).

What are the biggest sources of stress in your life?
Which techniques do you use to deal with it?

How well do these techniques work for you?

  1. Personally, I enjoy going for walks and clearing my mind but I completely agree with the article and think any of the methods listed are just as useful, including talking it out.

  2. For me personally the biggest sources of life are usually school related such as: having too much homework, big tests, or bad grades. I really do agree with this article because when i'm stressed I also take a shower, or listen to music. These techniques usually work really well because it does relieve some stress.

  3. well i usually don't have stress but when im kind of worried about something or a problem i go to the gym or hang out with friends it keeps me distracted from my stress and makes me feel better. The only thing i would be stressing about is homework or tests.

  4. Nice summary Emma I feel that people will always have stress and should find ways to deal with it more then just distract it. The biggest source of stress for me is whatever I choose to care about, thats why I'm never stressed. Going to the gym and going places with freinds often helps if I feel any stress. The techniques you stated work great for most people and everyone should have there own way of dealing with stress.

  5. The biggest source of stress in my life is balance. Balancing time with homework (school), competitive sports, and friends and family can be really difficult. Something I have to use daily to avoid stress is time management, especially when traveling with my volleyball team and missing school. I also find that talking about things that I am stressed about with someone that I trust can be really helpful and encouraging. This technique is really helpful for me :)

  6. I think this article makes a really good point on how to handle stress. The biggest source for stress in my life is taking on too much. I have found what my limit is as a person so when I have too much on my plate I know how to set priorities and let certain things go. I think it is always good to take time for yourself, and if you have a lot on your plate you should be able to have someone or a place where you can go to let things out. I think overall knowing your limits is very helpful when handling stress.

  7. I agree with the article and you. I believe that school is the biggest stress factor in teens daily life. And not only the classwork and homework. School sports and social life can also be very stressful. To relieve stress i would say we need to know our limits. We should know how much we can get done in a day and only try to do so much.

  8. The biggest source of stress in my life is school(grades) which in turn causes stress about college. To deal with my stress I usually sleep a lot and exercise. When I really want to avoid my problems, I usually binge watch shows on Netflix. Exercise and sleep are usually effective ways to deal with my stress issues, but binge watching usually delays my stress causing more stress for me in the end.

  9. I belive that school is the biggest stress factor for me because of my grades and I have to make sure that I am on top of every assignment and all. What I do that usually calms me down is to either take a nap or to play basketball or work out. I usually do these things because they are ways that I enjoy and I feel much more relaxed after
