Thirsty??

Health Risks Tied to Energy/Sports Drinks

Within the last 50 years there has been a large increase in Americans buying and drinking energy drinks. Americans are expected to buy $9 billion worth of them this year. The reason why these drinks have high health risks is they are very high in caffeine sometimes even higher counts than a very strong cup of coffee. The drinks do not have to state how much caffeine there is just that there is caffeine in the drink. These drinks also have a lot of sugars in them and often contain Taurine, Guarana, Creatine and B vitamins. Energy drinks can also cause kids to suffer heart palpitations, seizures, strokes, and even sudden death.

Sports drinks cause even more problems for athletes than non-athletes like increased blood pressure and dehydration. Sports drinks can corrode teeth even more than soda.

Do you drink energy/sports drinks?
Will you still drink them after reading this article?
Would you let your kids drink them?

  1. Really good post Joe but how much energy drink should one drink for me if I drink energy drinks its one and done for me. If I drink more than one i don't feel good. but I also know people where it doesn't affect them at all.

  2. To be honest, I liked your article a lot, thought it was really interesting because I do drink energy drinks, not a lot but occasionally. I do agree with you that their definitely bad for you, and have way to much sugar and caffeine but I feel like the final decision should be yours of what you want to put into your body, but I wouldn't want my kids drinking them.

    1. I definitely agree with michelle because I drink them sometimes and they do have really bad things for your body but its quicker and more convenient than making coffee when you can actually control what you put in. I do not recommend them to my kids drinking them.

  3. This a good post bro,
I think sport drinks or energy drinks are not that bad for if you go exercise or go work for a long time, but if you drink it just for the fun of it then you should expect something to happing. After reading this I still would drink it but before a workout not for fun. No I would not give this to my kids until they are grown enough.

    1. I agree you shouldn't drink energy drinks just for the fun of it because it does you no good but I think you should try and drink water its way better for you and after only drinking water for a while you wont really need to have energy drinks anymore

  5. I work out almost every day, but I do not drink sports or energy drinks. After reading this I will ensure to steer clear of them and to encourage others to do so as well. I was aware that they are high in sugar and calories, but I did not know that they contained carbohydrates as well. In the future, I will ensure that my children drink milk to replenish their bodies instead of loading up with caffeine and sugars.

  6. I am in the same boat as Nicole. I workout everyday and have sports practices and activities at least 3-5 times a week. I don't drink energy drinks such as Rockstar or Monster. After reading this article, I understand the potential risks to my body in the long run that energy drinks can cause. I will be sure to never rely on energy drinks.

  7. Not being a highly active person, I do not need or drink energy drinks. And even when it comes to those long nights filled with homework I rather a cup of coffee than a energy drink. With that being said I believe energy drink are okay in moderation. If you are truly drinking energy drinks for energy and not to be cool then go for it. And I would not let my kids drink them.

  8. Kids drink these energy drinks because they think they are "indestructable". Other people drink this or eat that or do that; I guess I can too. These energy drinks have chemicals and unnatural substances that can lead to severe health conditions. People don't recognize that factor, they are just trying to get through their day with energy. I believe people will have a loss in productivity while drinking these unhealthy drinks because it messes with your brain functions, plus there are side effects. People should find other healthy alternative methods to finding energy for productivity because why would you want to deteriorate your health or risk your life.
