"Scientists find link between heavy Facebook use and depressive symptoms"

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/292081.php

In this article, scientists discuss the affect facebook can have on its users. Not specifically the website itself, but the information on it can cause people to constantly compare oneself to their friends and lead to depressive symptoms. Do you think you are affected by this? Should the amount of time spent on facebook be limited? Should facebook have less personal information posted about others?

  3. I feel that we as people will always compare ourselves to others and social media is just a super clear easy way to do that. Limiting time on social media is necessary because it can be very dangerous for some people. Facebook should and can post anything it's just something you have to realize when you are on it. In conclusion limited time is the best solution to the issues Facebook/social media causes

  4. I feel like any social media can be linked to depressive symptoms, but to a certain extent I agree that Facebook should be more limited and less personal. From my own experience, almost all photos, posts, and any personal information uploaded by anybody with a facebook account is accessible by simply looking up the person. At the same time, I feel that most people are aware of these conflicts and are reminded every time they post or upload something. Facebook is supposed to be used at everybody's own risk. Also, people can help the issue by spending less time on Facebook, or any social media for that matter.

  5. It is 100% true because I experienced it. We, specially me ! should be careful with Facebook and it's effect. Actually any social media can have the same effect. People with different personalities and attitudes sometimes act in a different way that leads us to get depressed. For example, if my friend lost her mom, I should not post something on Facebook about family or my mom because it can effect her emotionally. I experienced it and I know it ! We should not post things that our friends get easily depressed by it !

  6. I don't think that the amount of time on facebook and other social media sites be limited. I do think that people should just be aware of the impact that social media can be on their mentality. I think people should also remember that almost everything posted are the good parts of the person’s life and that as the article said, there are bad parts too and no one is perfect.

  8. I don't think the amount of time you spend on a social media website can make these feeling occur. I think there are some people you will always look at and compare yourself to if not everyone. I don't say this because I think people are always comparing themselves to each other. I say this because there are going to be people you come across that make you feel worse about yourself because you aren't doing as much as them or you're not as pretty as them or you don't have as much as them. I think some of this is natural, but I do think social media makes it easier to compare yourself to others if you're looking to do so.

  9. I believe that social media can have a big reason for many to get depression like symptoms. The things that go on social media sites can sometimes be very grusom or very disturbing. I belive that this can interfere with the brain leading bad thoughts to us giving us somelike depression thoughts.
