Is Dieting Healthy For Teens?

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2720872/

The issue of teens trying to attain this image of perfection with their body pertains to many aspects that we have covered in class; such as physical health and spiritual health. Teens are constantly pressured by media to change their bodies. One of the strongest messages that teens receive from magazines, television, movies, or social media is that they need to be thin to be happy, healthy, and beautiful. Unfortunately, teens turn to diets for all the wrong reasons, therefore they typically do no give the desired results. In fact, teens who do experiment with dieting to change their body actually feel "more fat," have lower self-esteem, and feel less connected in terms of social life. Teens are still growing so they actually need more nutrients to be healthy. Eliminating meals or certain food groups can be dangerous to the teenage body. If you think you worry too much about your weight or if having a negative body image is interfering with your happiness, try to tell an adult you trust, like a parent, teacher or doctor.

  • Do/did you ever feel pressure to have a certain body image as a teen?
  • Do you feel that the media interferes with the true definition of "healthy"?
  • Are there any other forms of dieting you think could be healthier for teenagers to try?

Is "alone time" good for you?

This idea of taking time to yourself correlates with some previous topis we have covered in health, like handling stress, and spirtiual health. With everything we have going on in our life we sometimes forget that it is good to take a break from all the stress. This article discusses all the benefits of having alone time, and how it can give us the proper time we need to rest. By giving yourself a little "me time" you can clear your head of all your worries and find some peace. Giving time to yourself can re-energize your brain, and can cause you to pull yourself away from all the pressures we face in society. I believe this article makes tons of valid points and as someone who gets energy from "me time", I can testify that this idea of alone time is the best thing one can do for oneself.

. Do you believe that alone time is a good solution for stress?
. Would you try this method?
. Do you think being alone is the same as being lonely?
