Are You Getting Enough Fiber?


We spent a lot of time in class talking about nutrients and the RDA for teens for the nutrients we learned about. We also evaluated all of that with our food logs. I think we all know fiber is good for us, but do we really make sure we get proper amounts? Fiber is good for you. It doesn't just help with digestion, but it does other things to prevent health issues. Studies show that majority of American people aren't getting enough fiber. When we saw the China study in class, we learned that our country is obese. Along with this, I guess I can say people living in this country are becoming more and more unhealthy.

Do you think more people should know about this to increase their intake of fiber?
Should fiber be an essential part of everyone's diet?
Do you think fiber is beneficial?

  1. In America we have a higher intake of protein comparative to the intake of fiber, so I think it would be great if more people knew about the benefits of increasing your fiber consumption. Fiber should be an essential part of everyone's diet, because it has already been proven that we have a very low intake in fiber but a really high intake of protein, so I think it needs to be balanced out in some way. Fiber is extremely beneficial. It has more benefits than detriments.

  2. I think more people should increase their fiber intake because fiber is an essential part of someone's diet. As the article states fiber helps with digestion and it helps with constipation. If people eat more fiber, especially Americans who have a lack of fiber intake, then people will be more full and less constipated. Fiber is beneficial because it reduces weight gain by reducing overeating. In addition, fiber is what makes someone poop everyday to get rid of extra stuff in their bodies. I personally think that without a significant portion of fiber in one's diet, one can easily gain more weight at quicker rate.

  5. I strongly believe that fiber should be a part of everyone's diet. Because since a lot of people don't like to work out or they are to lazy to work out. They should at least eat healthy.

  6. Americas intake of fiber is very low compared to chinas, However i think that its american culture to be more based toward protein and building muscle and i think because everyone is more focused on protein and forget about the importance of fiber.
