Did you know that only 9% of teens in the U.S. smoke cigarettes, compared to 23% in the year 2000. That is a huge difference as well as a huge step taken toward eliminating smoking as a whole. Cigarettes have yet to show a benefit, a way that people can say they are a good thing, that is for the better. By smoking cigarettes you are not only affecting yourself but the people around you with secondhand smoke and exposing people to the dangers of smoking. And by teens smoking cigarettes they are only opening up the gate to a lifetime of addiction to nicotine and tobacco, so don't smoke, and dont put yourself and others at risk.

Do you or someone you know smoke?
What would you do if someone offered you to smoke?
Would you start smoking and put your loved ones in danger?

  1. I do not smoke, but I do know someone that does. If someone was to offer me a smoke I would turn them down respectfully. I would not start smoking because all it will do for me is damage me and the ones around me.

  2. I do not smoke, however I am close with a lot of people that do. Realistically I don't think many people would offer someone else a cigarette unless they knew they smoked, or if they asked for one. I personally would not ever smoke because I don't want to be constantly needing to buy a pack which can get expensive and I wouldn't want to harm myself, other people, or the environment.

  3. I think smoking cigarettes is a big problem outside of school because many kids have parents who smokes and they are also getting affected by it. I don't think people think about their loved ones when they smoke or do something stupid.

  4. Similarly to Colin, I would turn down anyone who offers me a cigarette since I know the consequences to me and those around me. I realize that a lot of people who start smoking are "trying it out," and I will avoid smoking by just staying away from it.

  5. I do think that smoking is extremely bad for you and I myself would never try it even if I was offered it because I know how adictive and dangerous it is. My dad used to make medical devised that treated emphasima so I know how bad smoking is for you. I would never want to put my family or my loved ones through that because they can get second hand smoke.

  6. If someone offered me a cigarette, I would refuse it. I am well aware of the potential dangers of smoking. Also, I have asthma, so smoking might increase my risk of an asthma attack.

  8. I do not smoke but I have been offerd plenty of times to smoke. And I always say no so that would be the best option so just simply say no and walk away it's that easy.

  9. It's no surprise such a low amount of teens smoke. You would be hard pressed to get anyone to start considering the insane amount of warnings and information made pubic about the dangers and outcomes of becoming addicted. No one I know smokes. If I were offered one I would not take it, and the largest problem about smoking near family is the dangers of second hand smoke damaging them.

  10. I don't personally know anyone that smokes, and if I was offered to smoke, I would politely decline. I think that the reason that there is a decline in cigarette usage is because it's just becoming out of style. Teenagers are probably doing other things that quite possibly can be much worse than cigarettes ever were. Furthermore, nowadays, people are urged so often to not smoke, never smoke, and to stop anyone from smoking that anyone who smokes is truly someone who won't be stopping any time soon.

  11. I don't smoke, and if my close friend started to smoke cigarettes I would try to get him to quit. It's a terrible habit, and one which will kill you. I think the use of statistics in this article is a bit misleading... while smoking cigarettes is down, use of other tobacco products (namely ecigs) has grown incredibly among teens as what is "in" shifts.
