Why is Procrastination a problem?

It's Never Too Late to Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination is a habit many students go through but aren't aware of the effects procrastination has upon us. Procrastinators delay and make excuses for the things that have to be done in their daily lives. The reason why procrastinators set of an assignment later, is because they are either a perfectionist or they look over their life too much. Not only does procrastination effect your mental health, it also effects your physical health. People who procrastinate tend to eat poorly, sleep less, and do drugs more than people that do their homework promptly. Procrastination is also a stress factor, which we will be learning more about in health class. Students also tend to put things off, like healthy behaviors and exercise. Planning out what you are going to do, invoke a buddy system, set a reward for yourself, and trying to keep time manageable are some ways procrastinators can kick the habit off.

Do you think procrastination is a problem? Do you have any other strategies that can help avoid procrastination?

  1. I do believe that procrastination is a problem, especially for students. Because procrastination can let people become more and more lazy, they do not struggle to their assignments. As a student, we should have a good habit to study things diligently. Procrastination can make them have an unhealthy psychology and they will be a irresponsible people in the future. The way to kick this habit is to write down your goal every week and plan what you need to do. The planning can remind you of your task and make you struggle for your goals so that we can make a great effort. Procrastination makes people lazy, Struggling makes people diligent.

  2. Procrastination is definitely a huge problem for me. As in the article, I usually feel the temptation to complete a task less important to me so that I can get out of completing the task. Also, I feel that it is not limited to people who are lazy. Although contradictory, the article does correctly identify as perfectionism as a cause. However, completing tasks in segments has played a big role in helping me kick the procrastination habit. Another way I have tried to break this habit is that I have re-channeled my energy from making excuses into actually completing the task. While procrastination is a tough habit to break, taking small steps to solving the problems makes it not so difficult.

  3. It is evident that the majority of students struggle with procrastinating their homework assignments. Although it is true that a lot of procrastinators are lazy, that it not an ideal source of blame. Many people live busy lives and sometimes need to set things aside so that they can focus on more important things. I also believe that procrastination can be easily avoided. If you set yourself goals and prioritize your assignments, then it will be very easy to balance out your schedule and get your assignments done.

  4. I think that procrastination could potentially be a problem but it could possibly not be. It is up to the individual procrastinating. Some people work good doing everything last min because they set aside time were no distractions could be in place for them to be distracted. I'd spread out the time to work evenly to prevent procrastination.

  5. I believe procrastination is a big problem because it is used as an excuse not to do your work. Which cause people to fall behind and not understand what is happening. It also affects how well you pay attention or the amount of information you keep stored.A strategy you could use is to set up a specific time to work on that particular project and stick to it. Also you could ask a family member to tell you whenever you start procrastinating to get back to work

    1. One thing that was mentioned in the article was to set up a plan or time to do the work, and it's one of the strategies you mentioned. I agree with this strategy because it can remind you to do the work, and it gives you a specific time do it, so you won't procrastinate later.

  6. Procrastination is definitely an issue in teens and adults today. We all push doing our important work later than just doing it now, in the moment that we know we can. This can cause stress, sleep deprivation, and even making us get to the point we won't do it. We need to push ourselves to strive to do our best and do our work now rather than then so we know the consequences of our actions.

  7. I definitely agree that procrastination is a problem for many people, especially for teenagers. I think that so many of us feel so overwhelmed with all the things we try and fit into our schedule, that we often put off important things just due to so much pressure and stress. I think a good way to prevent procrastination is to not try and do so many things at once, and keep a journal or something to write down all your responsibilities and set aside the time to do them and actually do it, so you can relax after.
