Truth behind Fast Foods

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/20/fast-food-truths_n_4296243.html
Chicken nuggets from McDonalds, a Dorrito Locos taco from Taco Bell, or maybe beans from Wendys?  Which one are you craving for your lunch? As of 2012 their are 263,944 fast food restaurants in America with a combined revenue of 100 billion. According to a poll 8 out of 10 Americans eat fast food monthly, half saying they eat it weekly. With all the advertising that fast food restaurants do, its not surprising that Americans keep walking through fast food doors. But before you do consume their foods you should evaluate what your eating. Thats of course if your fine with eating fly eggs, silicone dioxide, and other substances that are put into your meat.

I found this article very interesting because fast food is honestly a monthly thing for me. I don't like to eat it but its something easy to do when your in a rush or need a snack. After reading this article I have learned the substances and chemicals put into these foods to mock a sanwhich or a side. I am glad I have found this article because it has made me want to cut back and stop eating some of these fast food products, but not only that but to spread awareness.
Why do people still eat these products if they know whats in these foods?
Why do you think the FDA is okay with letting these restaurants put certain chemicals in their food?

  1. I think that people still eat fast food because its fast, inexpensive, and delicious. I eat fast food weekly because after a couple days of not eating it, I start to crave it. After reading this article, I realized that I need to cut down on how much junk food I consume. I think that the FDA is okay with letting these restaurants put certain chemicals in their food because we aren't aware of the these chemicals so we continue to eat fast food daily. I find it outrageous that there are about 263,944 fast food restaurants in America.

  3. Honestly, this post made me want to up-chuck a little bit. It saddens me that so many people are eating food that is literally killing them. However, this is not much a health issue as it is an economic one. The problem is that, while everyone knows they should eat healthier, fast food is not only cheap, it is delicious. You can't compete with the dopamine rush that comes from a Big Mac, and at $2! It's practically a steal. The reality is that, while people would like to be healthier, they cannot really afford to when there is such a cheap and pleasing alternative. However, as evidenced by the article, this food is literally killing us. Wendys uses lube spray in their chili?? Come on! That's disgusting.

  4. I think some people should stop eating these foods because they do not know what they are eating.I eat food from McDonald's once a week. Maybe I need to show my dad the article because he buys the food.

  5. I love fast food because it is cheap and just easy to take home, but after reading this article I find that the before looks of the food mildly disturbing and gross. However you can never really tell after its cooked because a meal is a meal after it is cooked.

  7. I think a lot of people, including me, eat fast food because of the combination that it is cheap, quick, and good tasting. I think it is gross that there are fly eggs put in fast food and I believe there needs to be a change that makes healthy food more affordable.

  8. Some people eat these products because it's quick and money saving. According to the article, 8 of 10 Americans eat fast food monthly and keep walking through those fast food doors.
The FDA put chemicals in fast foods is because it gives its flavor. According to the article, it says that all kinds of substances, like fly eggs or silicone dioxide are added to the fast food meals.

  9. With 263,944 fast food restaurants, I don't believe that people will give up fast food because it is really easy to get. I see advertising everywhere on TV and even when I'm in the car, it is always on my mind to eat fast food.

  12. It make sence why people eat fast food, I love fast food myself. It fast, is cheap, is pretty good... not bad atleast better then school lunch. But in terms of the food having fly eggs, silicone and other substance. For me as long as it safe to eat, i don't mind.

  13. I have been eating a lot of fast food recently, but the more I eat the more sluggish and gross I feel. I think more people continue to eat it because it is bc rap and very convenient instead of actually going home and then preparing a meal. "poll 8 out of 10 Americans eat fast food monthly, half saying they eat it weekly." This evidence shows how many people on the world actually consume this unhealthy food. I know that it is bad for you, but I can understand how people could still eat fast food even though they know it is bad for them. I am trying to stop eating fast food because I'm learning more and more about how bad it is for you and the long term affects of it.

  14. Its really gross how many chemicals are put into fast food in order to preserve its shelf life, the look of the food, and its smell. I think that many people still eat fast food because its easy and fast to get when your busy, its cheap, and its addictive. The FDA lets a lot of this slide because they dont consider all these chemicals to be unhealthy (even though so many people are dying from diseases caused by eating fast food) and the food industry practically controls whats considered healthy and unhealthy.

  15. The picture in the article showing the fries from McDonald's aging over 3 years vs. the fries from KFC really spoke to me. Like, they look like they are only a few days old but they are actually 3 years old, and that really shows how terrible these foods are, and I think it's crazy how people eat that kind of stuff every single day. After reading this article, I am really going to think twice before getting fast food.

  16. After reading the article, I think people are so used to eating at fast food restaurants because they have learned from their previous generation and will continue to develop throughout the years. I believe that if people didn't enjoy eating fast food years ago when it was created, what makes you think they'll get rid of it now? They have created new ways for their food to taste better. They have created new foods to make their restaurant better. The FDA will continue to make things slide because these fast food restaurants make lots of money. Although I do think people should rethink when they want to go to a fast food restaurant.

  17. I think people continue to eat these products, even with the knowledge of what goes into them, because of the convenience of it; fast food restaurants make meals quick, easy, tasty, and affordable. If you ignore the health aspects, stopping at McDonald's or Wendy's on the way home seems like a great and efficient way to satisfy your hunger and get a good sized meal, all at a reasonable cost. So, simply telling people this food is unhealthy won't stop them from indulging on a regular basis.

It surprises me that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration allows things like fly eggs to go into fast food chains, and after scrolling through more disturbing images, it scares me to think of all the not seemingly edible substances I've consumed. The FDA probably lives by the saying "what you know won't hurt you", assuming people won't look too far into what they're eating and investigate. After all, before reading this article I had no idea that, when ordering chicken nuggets from McDonald's, I'm practically asking for processed chicken slime that's not really comparable to actual meat. However, I will honestly most likely continue to order these disgusting chicken nuggets, because I have the same problem everyone else does; if you don't think about what goes in them, they're actually delicious, and that 20-piece chicken mcnugget for $5 deal is hard to turn down.

  18. Wow. This was a surprising article to read but also very informational. It's disgusting to think that the $5 for 20 McNuggets has a mixture of bones and meat.

  20. I didn't know that fast food had ingredients like chicken bone mixture, fly eggs, and silicon dioxide. This is really disturbing and makes me question whether to continue going to fast food places. I think that a lot of people are unaware of the harmful chemicals in the fast food. If everyone was aware it might cut down the amount of fast food consumers slightly, but i don't feel it would make a huge difference. People would continue to eat fast food because it is tasty, convient, and cheap.

  21. I also most throw up when reading about the fly eggs being in sauces. I think the people don't want to believe that this stuff is really in the food their eating because it taste good and they are addicted, in a way, to the food. The FDA doesn't care because if the did they would let this happen. The FDA is probably in on it and only caring about the money and power they get .

  22. I don't think people will ever stop eating fast food because of the low cost and taste even though they know how un healthy it is and they don't even know what they're eating. All fast food is made of fake substances or not real meat so i wasn't surprised to see how its made in the article. i personally don't eat a lot of fast food.
